Information About Spotted Lanternflies
In one state in 2019, the estimate of damage cost and agricultural damage was $300 million. What people might not know is that Spotted Lanternflies are an invasive species originating from China that was first found in Pennsylvania in 2014. When feasting they suck out the sap from the plant and then secrete a substance that attracts other insects.
The lanternflies can be very damaging if they get into our trees. The lanternflies do have weaknesses and can be trapped easily enough with some common supplies. Without being on a tree for 24-48 hours the lanternflies would die. Lanternflies can only climb up and are not able to go back down. Our traps contain the spotted lanternflies in a plastic bag when they climb up the tree and trap them so they are stuck
